AP French and Spanish Language and Culture is a college-level course offered in the spring and conducted exclusively in French or Spanish. This course is intended for students in their fourth year of study, following the completion of level 4. Students enrolled in this course should already have a good command of grammar and considerable competence in listening, reading, speaking, and writing.
This course consists of the meaningful study of six themes that serve as platforms to practice interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational modes of communication. Coursework provides students with opportunities to demonstrate their proficiency in each of the three modes in the intermediate to pre-advanced range as described in the ACTFL Performance Guidelines for K-12 Learners. Students will use several primary textbooks and other authentic materials and resources that are in accordance with those suggested by the College Board. Students are expected to take the AP French or Spanish Language and Culture exam at the end of this course, and those who earn a 3 or higher on the AP exam can earn college credit at many universities.
